Author brings ghost story to Farmington
by Sue Buck
Staff Writer
Linda Alice Dewey said she met a ghost in a deserted Michigan cemetery and did what most people would not do.
She took him home with her. One single action has transformed Dewey's life.
A long-time student of metaphysics, Dewey, who lives in the northern Michigan town of Glen Arbor, said she helped the ghost, Aaron "Burke," cross over to his afterlife. His last name has been changed to protect his family.
Burke, who broke his neck after a fall from a hayloft in 1922 at age 35, had difficulty going to the "other side" because he first had to come to terms with his life on earth, Dewey said. He had abandoned his family prior to that and it took an emotional toll.
"He needed to forgive himself," Dewey said.
Dewey, who "met" Burke in 1995, will sign copies of her book, Aaron's Crossing, which was released June 15. She will also entertain with her original songs at Spiritual Reflections from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, July 14 in the Village Mall. The store is located at Grand River and Farmington Road in downtown Farmington.
The book profiles Burke's life on earth and in the afterlife, based on Dewey's "conversations" with him.
"I would feel a certain heaviness every time he was around," Dewey said.
Dewey's story has become the second best selling book in northern Michigan, based on a book list in the Traverse City Record-Eagle, she said.
After transcribing Burke's story, and adding her own experiences with the ghost, Dewey started her own publishing company, Northern Spirit Creative Productions.
Farmington is just one stop on Dewey's Michigan tour.
Dewey isn't new to metropolitan Detroit. She formerly taught remedial reading and music at Clarkston Junior High School from 1971-1976.
She was a student teacher in both the Redford Union and South Redford school districts.
