The calendar has turned to October, and scary stories of ghosts and monsters. This year, another type of ghost story is hitting bookstore shelves in Michigan. It's a rather sad, sobering tale, but one with a lesson for everyone.

"Aaron's Crossing: A True Ghost Story," was written by Linda Alice Dewey, who was born in Detroit and lived in Adrian for several years. She now resides in Glen Arbor in northern Michigan. While in Adrian, Dewey was active with the Lenawee Community Chorus and Christian Science Church. She is an accomplished musician, composer and singer, and artist whose works have sold throughout the country. "Aaron's Crossing" is her first book.

Dewey's road to writing "Aaron's Crossing" began in 1995 when she encountered the ghost of a a man named Aaron in a deserted Michigan cemetery. A longtime student of metaphysics, she "took him home" with her and says she helped Aaron "cross over" into the afterlife.

Aaron's story is truly a life lesson for everyone. He died in 1922 after falling out of a hayloft, but because of many unfinished issues in his life, was unable to cross over into eternity until he could come to terms with those issues and the people he left behind. The story is told from Aaron's perspective.

Having grown up lonely and troubled by his own angry, judgmental nature, Aaron finds himself blessed with a loving wife and three children. But when fate leads to the loss of his wife and youngest child, he becomes overcome with grief and abandons his two other children. He is totally alone when he meets his own unexpected death.

He is then forced to linger for decades until he encounters Linda, who is able to help him.

Whether one believes in ghosts or not, "Aaron's Crossing" is compelling reading. It shows the importance of making peace with yourself and your loved ones before it's too late.
